Dr. Paige E. Copenhaver-Parry
Dr. Parry is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biology at George Fox University. She completed her PhD in Ecology at the University of Wyoming in 2016 under Dr. Dan Tinker and joined the faculty at George Fox University in the fall of 2016. Her research program emphasizes the ecological processes underlying forest tree distributions and range dynamics. Paige currently teaches Ecology, Environmental Science, Plant Biology and Statistical Methods in Biology.

Current Students
Joanna Gunther
Joanna is a junior biology major and chemistry minor, and she joined the Parry Lab to gain experience in the process of ecological research and to develop skills that will facilitate a future career in research. Her current work in the lab aims to construct a hierarchical model of light availability in order to characterize the effect of the forest canopy on seedling recruitment. She looks forward to continuing to develop her ability to build ecological models via this work.
Joelle Sills
Joelle is a junior biology major and chemistry minor. Recently, she has taken an interest in environmental sciences, particularly forest conservation and sustainability with emphasis on policy and management. She joined the Parry Lab to learn more about ecological research and climate-induced changes in forests. She is currently researching climate lags in seedling germination to help identify the most climatically sensitive stages of recruitment. Through her research, she hopes to learn more about the field of ecology and develop the knowledge and skill set to address complex ecological problems.
Emma Ortiz
Emma is a freshman biology major with a concentration in ecology and field biology. She joined the Parry Lab to gain field and research experience, take a hands-on approach to learning about the impacts of climate change on forests, and develop skills that will help her in her professional career. She is currently helping to quantify seed production and dispersal in Douglas-fir and western hemlock by processing seed trap contents from five stands in western Oregon.
Elliot Shannon
Elliot is a senior biology major and mathematics minor interested in applying quantitative tools to ecological problems. His project in the Parry Lab focuses on developing a suite of species distribution models to contribute to a larger range modeling framework that is designed to investigate the role of disturbance in shaping current and future ranges of trees in the Rocky Mountain region of the U.S. Through this work, Elliot hopes to develop and enhance his skills in modeling and data management.
